4 Poems To Carry In Your Pocket

Coming back after a busy holiday can make any personal or professional obligation feel like sensory overload. Energy levels are often low and our productivity can remain at a lovely non-existence.

As the weather changes, so much of our priorities become reserved for staying warm and trying not to cry when the sun sets at 4:30. Our self-care practices take a back-seat, and even finding time to be alone for five minutes (to journal maybe?) feels like an infinitely daunting possibility. That’s why we’re here to help!

Often is the case that taking a few minutes to come back to center can help alleviate the feelings of overwhelming anxiety. Seasonal Affective Disorder can be improved by taking the time to reconnect with hobbies that make you feel happy… the obvious antonym of S.A.D. (!)

Poetry is a gentle reminder that words are powerful. We have the ability to change our outlook just by reshaping our perspectives; poetry does this by taking what our preconceptions of a word can mean, and mixing them with others to create a wonderful new way to look at the world.

Perhaps during these colder months try diversifying your reading shelf. Include new forms of literature as a way to find new authors and viewpoints. If you find an author a poem you like, write it on a sticky note and place it in your pocket. Sometimes, even just knowing it’s there can bring you a wonderful sense of grounding to bring you through your day.

Below are a few lovely poems to help get your mindset back to a place of peace, love and cozy vibes.
