At-Home Activity: Build a Self Portrait Combi

As news of the coronavirus spread throughout communities, which forced children to stay home from school, Evon came up with an idea–a weekly, at-home, art-based activity for the whole family to enjoy. The topics change week to week and, Evon says, “some families tell me that they do the weekly challenge together after dinner instead of watching TV.

Build a Self-Portrait Combi

For this week’s art activity, Evon drew inspiration from…YOU! Utilizing the objects and materials in our homes, the prompt is to build a self portrait with objects that are important to you. Start by brainstorming some objects that could tell a story about who you are:

  • What are some activities you love?
  • Are there special books, maps, or memory boxes that feel uniquely representative?
  • Do you have a favorite pair of shoes that make you feel like a superhero?

Make a list of all the objects on a piece of scratch paper that will soon form the structure of your self-portrait.

Supplies:

For this at-home activity, you will need;

  • 3 pieces of paper
  • A pencil
  • Black crayon, marker or colored pencils
  • Scissors
  • Glue
